Oncology Referral Service in the North of England

My interest in medical management of cancers of pets began 25 years ago. I have amassed extensive experience particularly in chemotherapy during that period.

I was a founder member of the Society for Comparative Oncology and two years ago I founded the British Veterinary Oncology Study Group.

Scenarios where referral may be appropriate (Links to example histories)

• Oral carcinomas: inoperable (such as lingual squamous cell carcinomas) or where owner is against surgery: Electrochemotherapy may be of great value here.
• Inoperable sarcomas (e.g. on limbs where amputation is not an option): Electrochemotherapy may be of great value here.
• Urinary tract tumours
• Prostate carcinomas
• Thyroid carcinomas
• Nasal carcinomas (surgery and chemotherapy)
• Mastocytoma...AgNOR stain for grading, staging pre- or post -op
• Chemotherapy for osteosarcoma
• Tumour staging
• Fine Needle Aspirate Biopsy
• Ultrasound guided biopsy
• Palliation of advanced cases
• Immunotherapy for melanomas

My on-call rota is 1 in 2 (nights and weekends).
